Haldwani to Haridwar by Taxi: Route, Distance, Time & Fare Guide

The run from Haldwani to Haridwar is one of our most-booked routes, especially for pilgrims heading to Har Ki Pauri for the evening Ganga Aarti or families starting a Char Dham journey. After driving it hundreds of times, I can tell you it is an easy, mostly flat drive once you leave the Kumaon foothills behind, and the highways have improved a lot in recent years.

Distance, Time & Route

Haldwani to Haridwar is roughly 235 km and takes about 5 to 6 hours depending on traffic at Rampur and around the Ganga bridge near Haridwar. The route I recommend is Haldwani → Rudrapur → Bilaspur → Rampur → Moradabad bypass → Najibabad → Haridwar. This keeps you on good four-lane highway for most of the trip, which means a comfortable ride and predictable timing. We avoid the inner-city congestion of Moradabad by using the bypass.

Best Stops Along the Way

Plan a tea or food break to break the journey. Popular halts our drivers use include:

  • Rampur – good dhabas for breakfast and clean washrooms
  • Najibabad – the last big town before you enter the Haridwar belt
  • Bijnor district highway dhabas – simple, hygienic Punjabi-style food
  • Roorkee outskirts – handy for fuel and a quick stretch before the final leg

Which Vehicle Should You Pick?

For two or three passengers a Sedan is comfortable and economical on this flat highway. Families of five to six usually prefer an SUV or Innova Crysta for extra luggage space, which matters if you are carrying offerings or staying several days. Larger pilgrim parties and joint families go for the Tempo Traveller, which seats up to 12 comfortably and keeps everyone together. All our vehicles are well maintained and air-conditioned, which makes a real difference on the warmer plains stretch.

Tips From a Local Driver

Start early, ideally by 6 AM, so you reach Haridwar before the evening Aarti rush fills up the parking near Har Ki Pauri. The lanes around Har Ki Pauri are vehicle-restricted, so our driver will drop you at the nearest accessible point and you walk a short way to the ghat. During the Kanwar Yatra season (usually July) the Haridwar approach roads get heavily restricted and diverted, so always confirm dates with us first; timings and routes change completely in that period. If you also plan to visit Rishikesh, it is only another 25 km onward along the river, and we can easily club both temple towns into one itinerary at a fair package rate, which is what most of our pilgrim families choose to do.
